The Waltham American Legion Post #156 Band is accepting
applications for the position of Music Director.

 

Our present director, Lawrence Gilbo, is leaving the state at the end of this coming summer and we seek a replacement to carry on his outstanding leadership.  

The Waltham American Legion Post #156 Band is a para-military marching band as well as a concert band composed of 60+ volunteer community members. Organized in 1946 and led by Dorothy (Dot) Slamin Hill until her retirement in 1996. The band is currently directed by Larry Gilbo. The band performs in 25 to 30 parades and 5 concerts annually, primarily in the Greater Boston area. It has also performed in concerts and parades in the 5 New England States and throughout the United States, England, Ireland, and the former Soviet Union. The band also participates in the American Legion National Convention Concert Band Competition annually.

The candidate should have experience conducting 15 to 90 year-old volunteer musicians in a variety of musical categories including, but not limited to, marches, Broadway show melodies, big band/swing/jazz arrangements, and classical wind ensemble pieces.

The Waltham American Legion Post #156 Band rehearses weekly on Monday from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at 215 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA
